Looking for home maintenance in Newton, MA? Hands on Duty looks after homes, rentals and small businesses across the city. A sticky window, a stained ceiling, a faucet that won’t stop dripping. Tell us what’s going on and we’ll take care of it.
Newton is really thirteen villages, and the houses change from one to the next. Drive from Newton Centre to Nonantum to Auburndale and you’ll pass Victorians, big colonials, two-families and mid-century capes. Many of them have been standing for a hundred years or more, and older houses ask for steady attention. Caulk shrinks, trim rots, and basements pick up moisture.
Hands on Duty gives Newton homeowners one reliable team for all of it. Our home maintenance services in Newton, MA cover repairs, seasonal upkeep and preventive care that stops small issues from becoming expensive ones. We arrive on schedule, bring what we need and leave your home as tidy as we found it.
Some customers call us once to fix one thing. Others set up regular visits before winter and again in spring. Either way works for us.
Most people want to know the cost before anything else, and that’s fair. We look at the job first, then give you a clear price before any work begins. No surprises when the invoice arrives.
As a local home maintenance company in Newton, MA, we’d rather do a repair properly once than come back for it later. If you have several small jobs, we can often handle them in a single visit, which saves you time and money.
Searching for home maintenance companies near me and not sure where to begin? Send us your list. We’ll tell you what needs attention now and what can safely wait.
A big single-family home in Waban and a condo near Newton Corner don’t need the same things. We start by looking at your property and listening to what you want fixed, then plan the work around that.
It also helps to have one number to call. Painting, plumbing, electrical, carpentry. You don’t have to hunt for a separate contractor for each job.
We protect your floors and furniture, keep the work area clean and explain what we’re doing as we go. When we finish, we walk through the result with you to make sure you’re happy.
Maybe a gutter is hanging loose after a storm. Maybe a room needs fresh paint before guests arrive. Maybe a landlord needs a unit ready between tenants. Hands on Duty works on homes and commercial spaces alike, so one phone call is all it takes.
Here’s what we can do for you.
Fresh paint can lift an entire room. We paint interiors and exteriors, and we put real effort into scraping, patching and priming so the finish holds up through New England seasons.
Most houses have a list of small jobs that keeps getting pushed back. Give it to us. Loose handrails, squeaky doors, hanging shelves and mounting TVs are all things we handle regularly.
Cracks, nail pops, holes from moving furniture or water marks from an old leak. We repair damaged drywall and install new boards, then finish them smooth so they’re ready for paint.
Many older Newton homes still have original plaster walls and ceilings. When they crack or flake, we patch and blend the repair so it doesn’t show.
Worn trim, a door that rubs the frame, custom shelving or a damaged porch rail. We handle the woodwork that gives a house its character.
Dead outlets, flickering lights, switches that feel loose. We handle everyday electrical repairs for homes and small businesses with care and attention to safety.
Dripping faucets, slow drains, running toilets and leaks under sinks. We fix the common problems quickly, so a small drip doesn’t become water damage.
Cold, snowy winters and warm, humid summers keep heating and cooling systems busy. We help keep yours running well through every season.
Flat-pack boxes can swallow a weekend. We build beds, dressers, desks and shelving, then haul away the packaging.
Yes. Replacing a light fixture or fixing one loose cabinet door is perfectly fine. We handle larger projects as well, so just describe what you need and we’ll figure out the scope together.
Yes. We serve Newton Centre, West Newton, Newtonville, Waban, Auburndale, Newton Highlands, Nonantum, Chestnut Hill and the rest of the city.

I do not give out 5 stars in my feedback assessments generally. But Hands on Duty Inc. is an exception. Here's why. My husband and I moved to our home quite recently. In a few short weeks our son and his fiance would like to have an 80 person engagement party in our home. There were a number of projects that needed attention, carpentry, plumbing, lighting etc. We interviewed several companies. The Hands on team stood out among all those we spoke to and interviewed. Even in our walk through the impressive breadth and depth of their skills was evident in their in-the-moment problem solving. When we checked their references, all of the contacts called back immediately. Each reference was a multi-unit dwelling owner and they all spoke glowingly about how much they can rely on and can trust the Hands on team staying with them for many years because of their skill and reliability. When it came to the work itself, the team arrived precisely on time. They communicated thoughtfully and reasonably about what they were doing and why. And, they noticed and shared a thing or two that we had overlooked. One had to do with the HVAC, which, though vital and evident, and having been through two inspections, had not been caught other HVAC, "experts". Their attention to detail was so impressive. They did not leave (and came back ) until the job was done. Hands on Duty treated our house with great care as if it were their own home that they were working on. Since they have worked with us, everything works as it should and better still! Without hesitation, my husband and I recommend Hands on Duty. They have earned our high regard for their skill, workmanship, and warm kindliness.Posted on Google![]()

Dilson and co did a great job with finishing up our condo renovation. After previous contractors botched a number of important details and dragged out the project for months, Hands on Duty came in and immediately set things right. They handled paint touch ups, shoe trim installation, wall repair, crown molding, caulking, shelves, and more. They were professional, knowledgeable, worked very quickly, communicated well, and did everything we asked of them. They even have an in-house cleaning service that went above and beyond to leave our space spotless ahead of the final inspection. If we had worked with them from the start, we would have saved ourselves a lot of time, money, and headache. As it is, I'm happy to recommend them to anyone needing help with home renovation tasks.
